Pioneer Award — Resources

To apply for a Phi Kappa Phi Pioneer Award, you must:
  • Be an active (dues current) Phi Kappa Phi member
  • Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program
  • Not be a sitting Phi Kappa Phi board member, divisional vice president, member of the Pioneer Award Program committee or Society employee at the time of application or announcement.

You will be required to upload one letter of recommendation

  • Letter of recommendation. Provide a letter of recommendation of approximately 500 words or 3,500 characters (min. 10-point font). The letter should reference (1) the applicant’s scholarship, research, engagement and leadership skills and (2) character and personality attributes, or other observations that will assist in appraising the applicant’s promise of continued success in baccalaureate study and beyond.

The application should be submitted online on or before the deadline of June 1, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. CT.

*We will not accept late applications or supporting materials.  

Recipients will be notified via email by Aug. 1, 2024.

Award recipients are required to submit a W-9 to the Society.  Based on this award type and eligibility criteria, the Society will not issue a 1099-MISC to the recipient.  However, award proceeds may be taxable to the recipient depending on various factors.   Recipients should consult with their tax advisor regarding the taxability of award payments.

* Foreign persons, including nonresident aliens, must provide Form W-8 BEN. Depending on the award type and the information provided, Phi Kappa Phi may be required to withhold 30% of the award for tax purposes per Internal Revenue Service regulations.
