Erika Power, of the University of Texas at Arlington chapter, combines dedication, curiosity, and compassion in her academic and professional journey. Originally from San Diego but raised in Washington, Power completed her undergraduate studies at the University of North Texas and is now finishing her master’s degree at University of Texas at Arlington.
She works as a Public Relations and Communications Graduate Assistant at the university’s EDGE Center, building awareness and engagement through strategic communication and student support. Power is also an active volunteer, leading campus events, supporting local missions, and encouraging students to join the National Marrow Donor Program.
Majoring in Communications, Power was drawn to the field by her love of movies and the power of words. Phi Kappa Phi, she says, represents hard work, perseverance, and academic excellence. She connects with others through listening, authenticity, and shared interests. Building meaningful relationships matters far more to her because trust and authenticity are what turn professional connections into supportive, long-term relationships. Power advises students to seek opportunities and stay open to growth when beginning their academic or professional journeys.
Outside of her work, Power enjoys films, manga, and adventures with her dog. Some fun facts about Power are that she can repeatedly pop her shoulder joint and stand on one leg for seven minutes. Her favorite movie is “12 Angry Men,” and if she could have dinner with any historical figure, it would be Dolores Huerta.
