How did you become involved as a chapter officer? The university president and provost appointed me to the position of chapter president after I spearheaded the arduous but rewarding process of attaining our chapter of Phi Kappa Phi. Leading my team of dedicated colleagues, I was able to put together all the documents required for our chapter and personally made sure that our charter was signed by all charter members.

What has your chapter done that has made you proud? We have had a wonderful scholar lecture series featuring Dr. Trachette Jackson, professor of mathematics at the University of Michigan and Dr. Carol P. Marsh-Lockett, associate professor of English at Georgia State University. I wrote the petition to have these outstanding scholars come into our chapter as honorary members.

What does Phi Kappa Phi mean to you? Phi Kappa Phi is the ultimate recognition of academic excellence. Even as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, I believe that my membership and my service as president of our chapter of Phi Kappa Phi (the first chapter president) is among the highest honors that I have ever achieved. For me, Phi Kappa Phi is the highest recognition of academic excellence.

What do you enjoy most about being a chapter officer? I enjoy leading my team of dedicated officers, and I enjoy seeing students and faculty become members during our induction ceremony. This is very moving for me. I also appreciate the prestige that our Society has on campus and in academia at large.

What advice would you give to a new chapter officer? Lead by being an ambassador of academic excellence and work hard for your chapter.

What are your hobbies? Writing, reading, and listening to classical music.

Where are you from? I am a native of Atlanta, Georgia.
