Phi Kappa Phi’s community of scholars continues to grow.

On Jan. 30, the Society’s newest chapter held its installation ceremony at Winston-Salem State University.

“As a new Phi Kappa Phi chapter, we are committed to celebrating the academic excellence of our students, faculty, and professional staff,” said the chapter’s president, Jeremiah Shipp. “I am excited to support our intellectual climate as we Unleash the Genius of our campus community,” he added, referring to the theme of the university’s strategic plan.

Winston-Salem State University, founded in 1892, is a historically Black constituent institution of the University of North Carolina that now enrolls about 5,100 students. Besides Shipp, the chapter’s new officers are President-elect Sara Migliarese, Secretary and Treasurer Jon Kapell, Awards Officer Leslie Winbush, and Public Relations Officer Nancy Smith.

Phi Kappa Phi began in 1897 with 10 seniors and two faculty members at the University of Maine. It now has about 325 chapters and 100,000 active members around the world. Phi Kappa Phi awards more than $1.3 million a year to outstanding scholars.
