Our 2023 winter Forum issue focuses on the theme of the beauty of winter. We interview New York Times essayist Margaret Renkl about the nature she’s witnessed in her Nashville backyard, which is the subject of her new book, The Comfort of Crows. If you haven’t read our profile, check it out here.

What kinds of plants, birds, or other wildlife are you spotting in your yard right now? Let us know, and feel free to share pictures. For me, the big news of winter in my Louisiana yard is always the arrival of goldfinches. They usually show up around Christmas, so I have something to look forward to. Because our Phi Kappa Phi members live in so many places, this promises to be a neat discussion.

Extend the conversation and share your thoughts. We’d love to hear from you about your favorite quote – and why you like it.
