Since its founding in 1897, The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi has been a community of scholars committed to inclusivity and diversity, principles we believe are fundamental to democracy. And yet we recognize that those principles are sadly not universally embraced by all our fellow citizens. 

The events in American cities and towns over the past week challenge us all to do better in advancing justice and peace. We are dismayed and disheartened by the violence to which citizens of color have been subjected and we share a deep sense of loss with those who have been harmed in any way. We reject bigotry and hatred in every form.

We believe that education and dialogue remain the keys to informed citizenship. As an organization grounded in the love of learning, we admit that we all have more to learn -- about one another, about injustice and systemic racism, and about our nation's history. Outstanding scholarship knows no color, rather, it affirms the dignity of every individual. As Dr. King said often, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
