The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi recently earned three national awards in the annual APEX Awards for Publication Excellence. APEX awards, now in its 26th year, are based on excellence in graphic design, editorial content and overall comunications excellence.
The Society’s 2012 Annual Report, produced by the Phi Kappa Phi Marketing Department, garnered a Grand Award, the highest prize, in the annual reports category. Titled “Mission in Action,” the report highlights the Society’s accomplishments as they tie in to the mission of Phi Kappa Phi through a visually appealing design with photos, member and award winner testimonials, chapter service highlights, and more. Only 100 Grand Awards were given out of 2,075 total submissions.
“We are honored to receive this top recognition,” said Phi Kappa Phi Communications Director Hannah Breaux. “With our 2012 Annual Report, we strived to create an engaging and informative publication that represented the many achievements of the Society made possible by our donors. Receiving the APEX Grand Award reinforces that the theme and message of the report were successfully conveyed."
Phi Kappa Phi Forum, the Society’s flagship publication, garnered two Awards of Excellence, marking the sixth straight year the quarterly has collected prizes. The summer 2013 edition, theme of “Dreams,” won for Magazines, Journals & Tabloids – Print over 32 Pages. The fall 2013 edition, theme of “Funny Business,” won for Magazine, Journals & Tabloids Writing. Of the 493 entries in various Magazines, Journals & Tabloids subcategories, 199 received honors.”
“Our volunteer writers, so knowledgeable in their fields and so adept at their craft, provide the lifeblood that pumps through the magazine,” said Phi Kappa Phi Forum Editor Peter Szatmary. “Through their rigorous and artful efforts the publication continues to offer enlightening, entertaining and challenging pieces that range across subjects and that reflect the all-disciplinary scope of the Society.”
The APEX competition annually recognizes outstanding publications from newsletters and magazines to annual reports, brochures and websites. The 2014 awards totaled nearly 2,100 entries in 11 major categories with 932 applicants receiving recognition.
