In Forum’s Summer 2026 issue, the “Member Spotlight” feature highlights Phi Kappa Phi member Martha Terry and the class that helped shape her future. Many years ago, Martha took an anthropology course on a whim, and she was so enthralled that she became an anthropologist. If you didn’t see Martha’s story, check it out here.
Have you ever taken a class that put your life on a different path?
Forum Editor Danny Heitman wondered about that after profiling Terry for the summer issue. A film class that he took on a lark in college long ago helped him see more deeply that arts and culture were really worth writing about. Those interests have been a big part of his journalism career.
We’d love to hear from you. Did a class ever really change your direction? Share your experience with us and join the conversation.
