Phi Kappa Phi Wins Three APEX Awards

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi recently earned three national awards in the 25th Annual APEX Awards for Publication Excellence.

Phi Kappa Phi Forum, the Society’s flagship publication, garnered two, marking the fifth straight year the quarterly has collected prizes. The summer 2012 edition, theme of “Home,” won for Magazines & Journals, Print over 32 Pages. The fall 2012 edition, theme of “Making the Grade,” won for Magazine & Journal Writing. Of 454 entries in various Magazines & Journals subcategories, 200 received honors.

“We applaud and thank our wide-ranging writers, whose authority in their field and facility at their craft make for compelling pieces,” said Phi Kappa Phi Forum Editor Peter Szatmary. “Our contributors continue to offer an enlightening, challenging and entertaining publication that spans the disciplines and reflects the diverse readership.”

The Society’s Marketing Department also received an APEX award for the “Make the Most of Your Membership” brochure in the Member & Customer Materials category. Of 149 entries in a number of Brochures, Manuals & Reports subcategories, 57 received honors. In 2010, the Phi Kappa Phi Marketing team received an APEX Award for its marketing campaign entitled “Great Minds Think Alike.”

“We strive to produce compelling educational materials that have true informational value to our membership,” said Phi Kappa Phi Chief Marketing Officer Traci Navarre. “We are honored to receive this recognition by experts in the communications field. Moving forward, we will continue our focus on providing materials and publications that both inform and engage Phi Kappa Phi’s members.”

The APEX competition annually recognizes outstanding publications from newsletters and magazines to annual reports, brochures and websites. The 2013 awards totaled some 2,400 entries in 12 major categories, with less than 1,100 applicants receiving recognition.
