2024 Graduate Research Grant Recipients

Phi Kappa Phi is proud to present the 2024 Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Research Grant recipients. Each graduate student received a grant of up to $1,500. The program grant recipients are:

Kallol Barai, University of Maine

Barai, graduate assistant at the University of Maine, will use funds from the award to present at the 16th International Conference on Precision Agriculture in Manhattan, Kansas.

Alexa Beathard, Oklahoma City University

Beathard, graduate student at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, will use funds from the award to present her research at the Respiratory Drug Delivery conference in Tucson, Arizona.

Rania Marie Buenavista, Kansas State University

Buenavista, graduate research assistant at Kansas State University, will use funds from the award to present at the 2024 Institute of Food Technologists First Conference in Chicago, Illinois.

Christopher Doney, Northwestern State University of Louisiana

Doney, a graduate student at Northwestern State University, will use funds from the award to support his fieldwork and sociolinguistics research in Dushanbe, Tajikistan where he is currently studying the prevalence of English in the linguistic landscape.

Jillian Franks, University of Missouri-St Louis

Franks, graduate student at Brandeis University, will use funds from the award to support travel to the Social & Affective Neuroscience Society and Cognitive Neuroscience Society Conferences in Toronto, Canada.

Quanda Johnson, University of Wisconsin-Madison

Quanda Johnson, doctoral student at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, will use funds from the award to support interdisciplinary research and travel in Haiti for historiography and ethnographical research for new work "I Know My Robe Gonna Fit Me Well, I Tried It On at the Gates of Hell: Speak! Our Mothers."

Alexandra Lebron, Florida International University

Lebron, graduate assistant at Florida International University, will use funds from the award to support her dissertation research into the illegal primate trade.

Mitchell Nelson Lobo, MCPHS University

Lobo, a Ph.D. candidate at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, will use funds from the award to support her dissertation research on the preclinical development of a novel iron chelator, determining its pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and safety profile in secondary iron overload disorder.

Daniel Manu, The University of New Mexico

Manu, graduate student at University of New Mexico, will use funds from the award to support my drug discovery research in United States where he will design machine/deep learning models to produce novel molecules that can be synthesized as new drugs.

Mahfuzul Nissan, University of New Orleans

Nissan, a doctoral student and graduate research assistant at University of New Orleans, will use funds from the award to present research work at the Digital Forensics Research Conference.

Sagun Poudel, Virginia Commonwealth University

Poudel, a Ph.D Candidate in Pharmaceutical Sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University will use funds from the award to attend the 2024 Annual Meeting of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology in Seattle, Washington.

Naresh Sah, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center

Sah, Graduate Research Assistant at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, will use funds from the award to research on the mechanism of resistance to 5-Fluorouracil and develop a novel fluoropyrimidine to treat colorectal cancer.

Michael Saunders, University of Michigan

Saunders, Ph.D student at the University of Michigan, will use funds from the award to present at the American Society for Peripheral Nerve in Nassau, the Bahamas.

Lenis Aislinn Separa, University of the Philippines

Separa, assistant lecturer and Ph.D student at Massey University Wellington, will use funds from the award to present at the International Association for Media and Communication Research in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Zunaira Shoaib, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Shoaib, graduate research assistant at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, will use funds from the award to attend the annual American Association for Cancer Research conference in San Diego, California.

Kaitlin Stober, Elon University

Stober, Ph.D student at Brandeis University, will use funds from the award to present at the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities annual conference in Louisville, Kentucky.

Louisa Tichy, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro

Tichy, graduate student at The University of North Carolina Greensboro, will use funds from the award to support her dissertation project in the field of exercise oncology where she will study the cardiotoxic side effects associated with immune checkpoint inhibitor anti-cancer therapy and the cardioprotective effects of exercise.

Hilda Torres, Texas State University

Torres, a Ph.D. student at Texas State University will use funds from the award to support her dissertation research focusing on a usewear analysis of Later Stone Age lithic tools and ostrich eggshell beads from Blydefontein Rock Shelter, South Africa.

Sameeha Vardhan, Texas State University

Vardhan, a Ph.D Student at Texas State University, will use funds from the award to support her dissertation research on marriage and matrimonial websites in India

Ellie Xu, University of Southern California

Xu, graduate student at University of Southern California, will use funds from the award to present at the Society of Biological Psychiatry in Austin, Texas.
