Phi Kappa Phi depends upon the work of more than 100 volunteers to serve on as many as 12 national committees each biennium. Serving as a volunteer is a wonderful opportunity to get involved on the national level and network with colleagues from around the country.
Members who maintain active membership status are eligible to serve as a committee volunteer.
The Society operates on a biennial calendar and the committee term of service is two years. No member may serve more than two consecutive terms on the same committee.
Committee work typically involves conference calls and in some cases may require travel to the national office in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at such time as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted; until such time all meetings will be conducted virtually. Expenses are paid according to Society policies. Award selection committees work electronically in the award portal on the ΦΚΦ website.
Most committees are comprised of five individuals, including the chair, who represent the diversity of Society membership. The Society President defines the functions of each committee and appoints the chairperson.
To meet the needs of the Society, the Bylaws make the provision for the creation of additional committees beyond those outlined in the Society Bylaws, and operational committees are determined on a biennial basis per the Policies and Procedures Manual.
Budget and Program Review Committee | Reviews proposed biennial budget as well as existing programs, awards and related stipends and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors. The President-Elect serves as chair with four appointed members, the Society's Executive Director and the Society's Chief Financial Officer.
Bylaws Committee | Reviews and, when necessary, recommends revision to the Society Bylaws and sample chapter bylaws. Five appointed members (one being a member of the Board) and the Society's Executive Director serve on this committee.
Nominating Committee | Provides a slate of candidates for the Board of Directors and Divisional Vice Presidents. The Past President serves as chair with four appointed members and the Society's Executive Director.
Investment Committee | Provides recommendations to the Board of Directors for the investment of Society funds. A Director serves as chair with four appointed members, the Society's Executive Director and the Society's Chief Financial Officer.
Forum Advisory Committee | Reviews the Society’s quarterly publication, the Phi Kappa Phi Forum, and makes recommendations regarding aims, style, and content. A Director serves as chair with four appointed members, the Forum Editor, the Society's Chief Operating Officer and the Society's Executive Director.
Award Selection Committees | Selection committees review and score eligible applications for specific awards. All award committees meet virtually with the exception of the Fellowship Committee, which meets annually in Baton Rouge.
