Phi Kappa Phi’s Love of Learning Awards are designed to help fund post-baccalaureate professional development for active Phi Kappa Phi members, including graduate or professional studies, doctoral dissertations, continuing education, travel related to teaching and research, career development and more.

For members like Lindsay Viatori, an Associate Professor of Dance at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, the award can help them reach new heights in their career. As a 2021 Love of Learning recipient, Viatori used the funds to travel and present her research at the Dance Studies Association Conference titled “Galvanizing Dance Studies: Building Anti-Racist Praxis Transformative Connections, and Movement(s) of Radical Care.”

“Presenting my research at this conference not only allows me to share with other dance professionals, but it also allows me to network and learn from many dance scholars who have paved the way for dance studies thus far,” Viatori says. “As dance scholarships shift, I hope to be at the fore of dance studies while simultaneously maintaining a high level performance and teaching career.”

Established in 2007, the Love of Learning Program gives 200 awards of $500 each annually in support of members. The selection process for a Love of Learning Award is based on the applicant’s academic achievement, campus and community service, intended use of award funds as it relates to academic and career goals and a personal statement.

Viatori was initiated in 2018 at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. “It is so exciting to be recognized for continued scholarly achievement. Being recognized from a large pool of impressive applicants from across the country is helping to demonstrate my continued work in dance studies,” said Viatori. “I am honored to have received such acknowledgment. The best part of Phi Kappa Phi is its support for continued learning.”

The deadline to apply for a Love of Learning Award is June 30. To learn more about the award and see full eligibility requirements, click here.
