Announcing the 2022 Phi Kappa Phi Week Chapter Awards
Phi Kappa Phi and the Council of Students are proud to announce the recipients of the 2022 Phi Kappa Phi Week Awards. During the first week of February, chapters were encouraged to celebrate member achievements and host activities that increased chapter awareness across the campus. This year’s activities included information tables with giveaways, social media campaigns and Valentine’s Day cards!
The chapters selected for the awards are:
- Angelo State University
- Caldwell University
- Mercer University
- University of West Georgia
Angelo State University (Chapter 321) planned and executed a social media campaign and used a university sponsored marketing effort to increase awareness and encourage eligible students to join. During the week, their Facebook page reached 22,256 users. They created ten different posts that highlighted Phi Kappa Phi Week and featured officers with biographical information. They also created slides that were shared on the campus monitors in the University Center.
Caldwell University (Chapter 335) set up a display table next to the bookstore and staffed it for four to five hours a day for the entire week. The table displayed the Phi Kappa Phi flag with the motto, a tablecloth with the logo, a fact sheet, a benefits page display and copies of the Forum. The chapter also hosted a lecture, “COVID-19 Omicron Variant and Health Considerations,” presented by Associate Professor of Biology, Dr. Agnes Berki.
Mercer University (Chapter 235) created a LinkedIn account and used it and their Twitter account to post Phi Kappa Phi advertisements, member spotlights and chapter news. They sent eligible potential student members an invitation letter, an initiation ceremony announcement and invitations to have professional headshots. Posters were hung and print media advertisements were distributed across the Macon and Atlanta campuses, and campus monitors broadcasted Phi Kappa Phi ads and fact sheets.
The University of West Georgia (Chapter 150) partnered with the Honors College to make Valentine's Day cards for patients in local hospitals and residents in local nursing homes. The Honors College provided materials for the cards such as paper, scissors and glue, and the chapter provided snacks, beverages and markers. In addition, they installed a Phi Kappa Phi exhibit at the university's library.
The Society and the Council of Students are proud of the efforts of each of the participating chapters during Phi Kappa Phi Week and are hopeful these activities will inspire other chapters to do the same on their campuses. Each of the four chapters selected will be awarded a $200 monetary contribution from the national office in recognition of their work.
