Chapter Update – June 2020
The June edition of the Chapter Update highlights the great work of five chapters who participated in the inaugural Phi Kappa Phi Week in 2020. Save the date for Phi Kappa Phi Week in 2021 to be observed Feb. 1-5.

Caldwell Celebrates Phi Kappa Phi Week
Chapter 335 at Caldwell University in Caldwell, New Jersey, set up a table in the student center from Feb. 3-7.
Members staffed the table each day during lunch and handed out chapter fact sheets and information about local and national awards. Approximately 100 students visited the table.
“We received many inquiries about grants and membership. It was a worthwhile week that promoted the Phi Kappa Phi chapter on our campus,” said Lynne Alleger, chapter president.
IUP Hosts GRE Strategy Session
Chapter 266 at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Indiana, Pennsylvania, hosted a strategy session for the Graduate Record Exam on Feb. 4.
Kaleigh Laird, student vice present, gave a presentation to help students prepare for the GRE. The chapter also served pizza to the students who attended the strategy session. The chapter plans to host another strategy session in the fall.
MSU Creates Good News Facebook Campaign
Chapter 302 at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky, conducted a Facebook campaign to celebrate Phi Kappa Phi Week from Feb. 3-7.
To get the project started, the chapter sent an email to its members asking for “good news” items to share. Some examples of the good news they were looking for included receiving an award, having a journal article published and being promoted at work. Members also were encouraged to submit information through a Google form and provide a headshot photo.
Five members responded to the call and their achievements were showcased on the chapter’s Facebook page. The campaign was called The Phi Kappa Phi Good News Facebook Report. The announcements were also curated at the end of the week into a Wakelet post.
"We wanted to participate in Phi Kappa Phi Week in a way that would be meaningful, showcasing the scholarly activities and other good news of our members," said Dr. Melony Shemberger, Chapter 302 president. "We enjoyed recognizing member accomplishments through social media during this special week."
TAMUCC Hosts Multiple Activities
Chapter 328 at Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi, Texas, hosted a variety of activities to celebrate from Feb. 3-7.
The chapter held two receptions at the campus library and staffed an informational table in a central location on campus throughout the week. The table was staffed by officers and used as a way to meet potential new members. During these events, members distributed information on Phi Kappa Phi, gave out treats and held drawings for students. Over 60 students visited the table and put their name in the drawing.
“Phi Kappa Phi Week was an ideal time to educate our campus community about Phi Kappa Phi, bring our membership together to engage in different activities, and to share the many opportunities the Society has to offer. We had a great turn-out and a lot of fun!” said Karen McCaleb, chapter president.
YSU Staffs Information Table
Chapter 143 at Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio, hosted an informational table on Feb. 5.
Student Vice Presidents and student members staffed a table to promote the Society while wearing Phi Kappa Phi gear. They gave away apparel to current members and distributed applications for chapter awards, which are open to both members and non-members.
“We are fortunate to have highly engaged students as part of our chapter of Phi Kappa Phi. Those participating in Phi Kappa Phi Week enthusiastically invited others to apply for our chapter awards, adding an important personal touch to the application process,” said Mollie Hartup, chapter president.
