The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi

Guidelines for Special Memberships and Chapter Recognitions

Chapters are encouraged to grant special memberships to existing and prospective members as they see fit. Below is an outline of special Phi Kappa Phi memberships and their corresponding requirements and procedures. Please direct specific questions regarding these special memberships to staff in the Chapter Relations Department.

Distinguished Membership

Requirements: Member who has served Phi Kappa Phi or society in general or both, in some outstanding manner, may be nominated for this status. (See Bylaws – Article II, Section 2.2)
Cost to chapter: $300. *
Procedure: Nominated by chapter or Board member. Letter of nomination and thorough documentation (resume, vita, etc.) must be submitted to Headquarters for distribution to the Board.
Approval: Board of Directors must approve prior to presentation.
Certificate: Certificate (Distinguished Member) sent from Headquarters, or framed certificate available from Headquarters for $50 or $90 with a medallion.
Cost to member: None.
Benefit: Active membership for life; no further national or chapter dues.
* Money must accompany the request.

Honorary Membership

Requirements: Awarded to non-member who has achieved eminence in some academic, creative, intellectual or other career endeavor. (See Bylaws – Article II, Section 2.23)
Cost to chapter: $320 (includes $20 initiation fee). Special emblem is available on order from the Headquarters. *
Procedure: Nomination by chapter or Board member; nominating letter and supporting evidence to be submitted to Headquarters for distribution to Board.
Approval: Board of Directors must approve prior to presentation.
Certificate: Certificate (Honorary Member) sent from Headquarters or framed certificate available from Headquarters for $50 or $90 with a medallion.
Cost to Member: None.
Benefit: Active membership for life; no further national or chapter dues.

Meritorious Service Award

Requirements: May be awarded to a member or non-member who has served the Society or his or her chapter with distinction.
Cost to chapter: $50 for framed certificate, $90 for a certificate with the medallion or $5 for a printed certificate
Procedure: Voted by chapter.
Cost to member: None.
Benefit: Recognition for services rendered to a chapter or the Society.

Past President Award

Requirements: Must be a member who has served at least one term as chapter president.
Cost to chapter: $5 per printed certificate. (Plus cost of past president emblem, ordered from Headquarters, if desired.)
Procedure: This is a chapter award.
Cost to member: None.
Benefit: Recognition for services as Chapter President.
