FAQ - Awards and Incentives
Fellowship Competition
Can my chapter select one student as our chapter's nominee for the Phi Kappa Phi National Fellowship competition, without conducting a chapter competition/call for applicants?
NO. The Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship Program is among the nation's largest scholarship programs in terms of the money awarded each year. However, should chapters not conduct a local competition, eligible members are denied an important benefit of membership, and chapters miss the opportunity to increase Phi Kappa Phi's visibility on campus.
Once the chapter has selected a nominee, what is the process to submit for the national competition?
- Each chapter MUST submit the Application Checklist & Transmittal Form (yellow) included in the award mailing in October or you may download it from the Web site.
- Application must be typewritten.
- All six pages of the chapter's nominee's application must be complete and submitted on the current application. Be sure the student's responses are confined to the space allotted on the application. No supplemental pages will be considered!
- Transcript(s) must be enclosed from each institution attended. Original should be attached to the original application and 5 photocopies for the remaining five needed. TRANSCRIPTS ARE NOT TO BE IN SEALED ENVELOPES!
- Nominee's standard test scores, interpretation sheets, and/or an example of creative work (if test scores are not required) are included. Photocopies are acceptable. Please be sure to include 6 copies.
- A completed Request Form AND letters (3) of recommendation are enclosed. Letters MUST be removed by the chapter and 5 additional copies made.
- The nominee must have signed AND dated PAGE 6 of the application.
- The nominee MUST be an active member (annual dues paid through March 31, 2009) or will be initiated into the Society by June 30, 2009.
- A chapter officer has completed and signed the Application Checklist & Transmittal form.
- Assemble in the following order:
- Nominee's Application
- Transcript(s)
- Test Score Reports or Creative Work
- Letters of Recommendation, including the Request Form
- MAKE FIVE (5) ADDITIONAL COPIES AND STAPLE THE PACKETS TOGETHER IN THE UPPER LEFT CORNER.
- Include with chapter nominee's materials and the Application Checklist a list of the names of all qualified applicants who submitted applications to the chapter for this year's competition. The list will be used to generate recognition certificates, which will be sent to chapters to distribute to applicants.
ALL NOMINEE'S MATERIALS MUST REACH THE SOCIETY HEADQUARTERS BY MARCH 2, 2009. ALL NOMINATIONS ARRIVING AFTER THE DEADLINE WILL BE DISQUALIFIED!
Can a student apply if he/she has begun its graduate/professional studies?
If an applicant has or will have accrued more than a semester of graduate credits by the 2008-2009 academic year, the applicant is not eligible.
Who do I contact if I have additional questions regarding the fellowships?
If you need additional information, please contact Maria C. Davis, National Marketing Development Manager, at 800.804.9880, ext. 35 or e-mail fellows@phikappaphi.org.
