Dr. William A. Bloodworth, Jr., has served as president of Augusta State University since 1993. During his tenure, he has overseen more than $95 million in new construction, the addition of student housing, record enrollment, and a change from being a senior college to a state university. He has been instrumental in the growth and visibility of the university's chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, which now sponsors an annual Phi Kappa Phi Student Research and Fine Arts Conference.

-------------------

“It has been decades since a college or university president has led Phi Kappa Phi,” noted Perry A. Snyder, the Society’s executive director at the time of Bloodworth's election. “As Phi Kappa Phi’s president, Dr. Bloodworth brings to the post insights, perspectives and contacts that will serve well this honor society,” Snyder stated.

-------------------

Bloodworth was elected to Phi Kappa Phi membership by the East Carolina University chapter in 1986, and he served on the national Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship Committee from 1991 to 1997. He was the keynote speaker at the Society's 2004 triennial convention. He is the author of two books, Max Brand and Upton Sinclair, and numerous articles on American literature, including the literature of the American West and the literature of Native Americans.

He earned a B.A. in English and education from Texas Lutheran University, an M.A. in English from Lamar University in Beaumont, and a Ph.D. in American civilization from the University of Texas at Austin. He also attended the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University.
