FAQ - Membership

Who can become a member and how?
Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. To be eligible for membership, a candidate must be of sound character and in the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors, having completed at least seventy-two semester hours or equivalent. Graduate students in the upper 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff, and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

I meet the criteria for membership but have not received an invitation. Who do I contact?
You may contact a chapter officer at your college or university. See the Chapter Directory for a listing of chapter officers on your campus.

How many members does Phi Kappa Phi have?

Since its founding in 1897, Phi Kappa Phi has initiated more than 1 million members. Each year, approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni are initiated. Currently there are approximately 100,000 active members.

How much does it cost to be a member?

As a new Phi Kappa Phi member, the candidate will pay certain national and chapter fees. The national portion, $50, pays for your pin, a certificate, and one-year of national dues. Chapter fees, which vary, cover the cost of the banquet or reception and local dues.

The annual membership renewal fee is $35 and is required for you to be an active member and receive the full benefits of membership for one year. Discounted rates are available if you opt to renew for multiple years.
