Council of Students

The Council of Students is comprised of two Student Vice Presidents from each of the Society’s five regions for a total of ten members. They serve as the student advisory panel for the two members they will select to serve on Phi Kappa Phi’s national board.

The Council of Students will assemble at the August 2012 Convention in St. Louis, MO (all expenses for this conference will be covered by Phi Kappa Phi). During the convention, members will gain valuable leadership skills and be charged with selecting two to serve as Vice Presidents for Students to represent the Council on Phi Kappa Phi's Board of Directors. This opportunity requires a commitment* to serve through the 2014 biennium, when the Society selects its next Council of Students.

Job Descriptions:

The Council of Students shall:

  • Serve for no more than one two-year term.
  • Represent the student’s voice on the Council of Students and assume responsibility for liaison between the Board and the students.
  • Participate in all Council of Students meetings and conference calls.
  • Interact with the Chapter Relations Committee.
  • Interact with Chapters and Student Vice Presidents in their respective regions.
  • Perform those duties that pertain to the Council of Students.

Vice Presidents for Students shall:

  • Serve for no more than one two-year term.
  • Serve on the Council of Students.
  • Present and represent the “student-side” of Phi Kappa Phi.
  • Participate in board meetings.
  • Represent the Council of Students and assume responsibility for liaison between the Board and the Council of Students.
  • Organize and conduct meetings of Student Vice Presidents in collaboration with the Council of Students.
  • Visit chapters and attend chapter events, including induction ceremonies, when possible.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Society’s President.

In order to be considered for the Council of Students, members must be

  • Current Student Vice Presidents and active with their membership in The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi
  • Nominated by their local chapter

What we need from you:

  • Completed Application and résumé (with current contact information).
  • Letter of recommendation from someone who can assess your leadership skills.
  • Letter or e-mail of nomination from your local Phi Kappa Phi chapter.
  • Essays (each 300 words or less) on (1) how you have contributed to your chapter and how you can serve students as a leader of Phi Kappa Phi on the Council of Students and (2) how your leadership experiences have prepared you for service to Phi Kappa Phi on the Board of Directors.

If you do not receive a confirmation email within 48 hours, please contact Mr. Carlson to make certain he has received your application materials.

*In order to become a member of the Council of Students, you must be willing to fulfill the two year term.  During this term you will be required to attend the Phi Kappa Phi Convention in St. Louis, MO on August 9-11, 2012.  At the Convention, the Council of Students will select two members from within to serve as Vice Presidents for Students. The Vice Presidents for Students will be required to attend bi-annual Board meetings during the fall and spring of each year.  All travel will be paid for by The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
