Chapter Update – January 2018

by Kay White | Jan 25, 2018

Welcome to the newest incarnation of the Chapter Update! This feature will highlight chapters, officers, members, and activities in the hopes that this will inspire and encourage others. Also, since this will be updated monthly, there will be more of an up-to-date sense, rather than reading about it months afterwards in the quarterly Forum.

Nova certificateThe fall semester ended with quite a number of initiations with many chapters opening their online enrollment early to beat the spring rush. If you are interested in doing the same, please contact Kam Lubben to help you get started.

Phi Kappa Phi's newest chapter, Nova Southeastern University, was installed on January 9 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. They are chapter 345, and we wish them success in all endeavors.

The national office's chapter development department held two workshops in early January in Phoenix, Arizona, and Dallas, Texas. These Growing Your Chapter workshops were attended by chapter officers from all over the United States and a lot was shared regarding chapter visibility and event planning on campus, as well as leadership succession. One participant from Brigham Young University said of the event, “I got many good ideas that I hope to be able to parlay into not only a higher acceptance rate by those invited to join ΦΚΦ but into an even healthier chapter and more meaningful ΦΚΦ experience for those who do join.” Thank you to all of the chapter officers who were able to attend!

Lastly, this month we would like to highlight a chapter officer from San José State University who has received an award from a weekly jazz publication for his outstanding jazz programming skills. One would expect that he works in the school of music or drama, but this is only his hobby. Bradley Stone’s career is as a Professor of Chemistry within the department of science at San José State. Read more here.

If you have an activity from your chapter or a chapter member that you would like to highlight, please email Kay White. It would be great to feature that in this monthly column.
