Giving Tuesday: A Reason to Give

Nov 9, 2016

In just a few weeks, Phi Kappa Phi will celebrate Giving Tuesday—a global day of philanthropy dedicated to giving back through the support of nonprofit organizations. Now in its fifth year, Giving Tuesday celebrates the act of giving back on the Tuesday following Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

You can celebrate this special day by making a gift to the Phi Kappa Phi Foundation on November 29. All gifts, no matter the size, will help deserving students and members realize their educational and career goals, from study abroad to graduate school to lifelong learning.

Read below to find out why some Phi Kappa Phi members choose to celebrate academic excellence with gifts to the Phi Kappa Phi Foundation.

“As an undergraduate and graduate student many years ago, who relied heavily on scholarships and grants to complete my degrees through the Ph.D. in Genetics at the University of Arizona, I recognize the importance that Phi Kappa Phi plays in helping students achieve their educational goals. I consider it an honor to help students by contributing to the many fellowships and awards that Phi Kappa Phi provides. Both the financial reward and the recognition that Phi Kappa Phi gives to its recipients strongly justifies my continued support.”

“It was a privilege for me to have the opportunity to work with the national Fellowship program for a number of years. It became evident through that experience that the focus of the young people who were nominated for the Fellowship will make a significant contribution to our future. Contributing to their future brings a sense of satisfaction that is deeply personal. The longer one lives the clearer it becomes that we can never obtain enough personal pleasure and accumulation of ‘things’ to result in the enrichment of ones soul in the way that serving others brings.”

“Through my many years of treasured association with fellow Phi Kappa Phi members, I have come to regard the Society as a distinct group of nurturers who dedicate themselves to recognizing and celebrating our young people who excel in their academic work and show glittering promise in their future careers, and I cannot think of a more deserving group of people to support.”

Whatever your personal reason, we hope you will consider joining us on Giving Tuesday to make an impact on the lives of members near and far.
