How did you become involved as a chapter officer? Our provost, John Frederick, asked for my assistance with publicity when UTSA's petition to start a Phi Kappa Phi charter on campus was approved in 2011. I thought I would just be writing a press release or two. Next thing I knew I was standing on stage in regalia being sworn in with our other charter officers.

What has your chapter done that has made you proud? Having our students selected for the Fellowship, Love of Learning and Study Abroad grants! I'm also very proud that our very young chapter was recognized as a Chapter of Excellence this year and as a Chapter of Merit the previous two years.

What does Phi Kappa Phi mean to you? For me, "love of learning" means adopting an attitude of humility in everything I do. I've been at UTSA for 15 years, but I'm always learning more about it!

What do you enjoy most about being a chapter officer? My regular job at the university keeps me connected to the faculty; working with Phi Kappa Phi is one of the few opportunities I have to get to know our students. Who are awesome, by the way.

What advice would you give to a new chapter officer?
Treat the folks at headquarters like your new best friends. Because they are.

What are your hobbies? Arts and crafts with my kids. And way too much binge-watching on Netflix.

Where are you from? Birmingham, Ala.
