Muskingum College Receives Phi Kappa Phi Chapter

Wednesday, April 08, 2009

NEW CONCORD, OHIO — The Board of Directors for The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi recently granted Muskingum College’s petition for a chapter of the nation’s oldest, largest and most selective all-discipline honor society.

Founded in 1897 at the University of Maine, Phi Kappa Phi initiates approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff, and alumni each year and has chapters at more than 300 campuses in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines.

“Adding this chapter of Phi Kappa Phi to Muskingum validates the exceptional quality of its students,” said Dr. Paul Reichardt, Muskingum College’s Vice President of Academic Affairs. “Membership represents a unique, extraordinary, nationally-recognized credential and strengthens Muskingum College graduates’ applications for admission to graduate and professional schools. Students who join are also eligible for The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi’s own generous awards, scholarships and enhanced career placement opportunities,” he added.

The campus at Muskingum College already lists notable Phi Kappa Phi chapter officers including President Dr. Joyce Alesandrini, President-Elect Dr. Rick Nutt, Vice President Dr. Jean Morris, Treasurer Dr. David Craft, Secretary Dan Wilson and Public Relations Officer Gary Golden, all of whom played a role on the chartering committee that petitioned to bring a chapter of the honor society to Muskingum.

A ceremony installing Muskingum College’s chapter of Phi Kappa Phi will take place on Sunday April 26, 2009 at 4:00pm in the Sandra Wolfe Thompson Theater in Philip and Betsy Caldwell Hall. Society Regional Vice President Dr. Rick Shale from Youngstown State University will be on hand to welcome Muskingum College as the 305th chapter of Phi Kappa Phi. The installation commemoration will be immediately followed by Muskingum College’s first ever Phi Kappa Phi initiation ceremony recognizing top scholars.
