Dorothy Spruill Redford Delivers Convocation at
Methodist University
Dorothy Spruill Redford spoke at Methodist University''s spring
convocation on Monday, February 2, 2009. Redford''s presentation, free
and open to the public, began Methodist University''s observation of
Black History Month. In addition to a number of related topics, Redford
lectures on African-American genealogy and Antebellum history.
Redford is the recipient of the Congressional Black
Caucus Carter G. Woodson Award, resolution from the Commonwealth of
Virginia General Assembly, and has joined Dr. John Hope Franklin in
receiving the North Carolina Humanities Council John Tyler Caldwell
Award. She is a member of the East Carolina University Chapter of Phi
Kappa Phi and has appeared in "Roots of Resistance" and "Roots,
Celebrating 25 Years." She serves on several boards, including the
African American Advisory Board for Monticello and Fortress Monroe. In
2006, she was a Portsmouth (Virginia) Notable.

Ole Miss Taps 10 for Hall of Fame
Among the ten University of Mississippi seniors selected for the
school’s Student Hall of Fame, three are members of Phi Kappa Phi:
- Ruth Ann Cooper of Corinth, MS, is pursuing a degree in
communications sciences. A member of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale
Honors College, she serves on the Associated Student Body and is a
member of Phi Kappa Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa and Alpha Lambda Delta.
- James Matthew Hopper of
Tiplersville, MS, is majoring in Southern studies. He is a member of
the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College, Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Alpha
Theta and Omicron Delta Kappa.
- McDaniel Drake Wicker of
Tupelo, MS, is majoring in international studies. He is a member of the
Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College, the Croft Institute and the
Trent Lott Leadership Institute. He also is a member of Phi Beta Kappa,
Phi Kappa Phi, the Associated Student Body, the Columns Society and the
Chancellors Leadership Class.

J. Evans Bailey Joins Law Firm
J. Evans Bailey has joined the law firm of Rushton, Stakely, Johnston
& Garrett as an associate. Bailey graduated cum laude from the
University of Georgia, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor
Society and the Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society. He is a member of the
Alabama, Federal and Montgomery County bar associations.
