Fellowship
Every year, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi awards sixty Fellowships of $5,000 each and forty Awards of Excellence of $2,000 each to members entering the first year of graduate or professional study. Each Phi Kappa Phi chapter may select one candidate from among its local applicants to compete for the Society-wide awards.
Named Fellowships
Slater Fellow
In awarding the Slater Fellow, preference is given to the top applicant whose undergraduate field is in the biological sciences.
2008 Winner
This year’s Slater Fellow is Courtney Lynne Ondeck, who is pursuing a double major in Material Science Engineering and Biomedical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, #047. She plans to complete an M.D./Ph.D. in Medicine and Biomedical Engineering.
Yoerger Presidential Fellow
The Yoeger Presidential Fellowship is awarded each year to a student in one of the basic science disciplines (i.e., engineering, agriculture) rather than law or medicine.
2008 Winner
David Eli Hoffert, who is majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, #021, is this year’s Yoerger Fellow. He is planning to pursue a Ph.D. in Robotics Mechanical Engineering plus Computer Science.
Kathleen Greey Fellow
Preference for the Greey Fellowship is given to one of the top-ranking nominee whose undergraduate field is other than the basic sciences.
2008 Winner
This year’s Greey Fellow is Andrew Steven Jick, a Business Administration major with minors in Economics and English at California State University, Los Angeles, #093. He plans to complete Law School with a J.D. degree.
Ruth E. Brasher Fellow
The Ruth E. Brasher Fellowship is awarded to the nominee from chapter #058 (Brigham Young University) should that nominee be chosen as a Fellowship recipient. If there is no Fellowship recipient from this chapter, preference will be given to a recipient whose record of service is exceptional and/or whose undergraduate major is domestic and family science, should there be one.
2008 Winner
This year’s Ruth E. Brasher Fellow is Jennifer Leigh Boyd, who is majoring in Biomedical Engineering Science and Technology at North Carolina State University, #033. Ms. Boyd has an impressive record of service to the university and community. She will pursue a Ph.D. in Orthopaedic Engineering.
Marjorie Schoch Fellow
The Marjorie Schoch Fellow is awarded to a top ranking nominee.
2008 Winner
This year’s Marjorie Schoch Fellow is Rajshri Mainthia, a Chemistry major at Virginia Commonwealth University, #193. Her graduate plans include earning a degree in Medicine.
Alfred M. Wolfe Fellow
The Alfred M. Wolfe is awarded in his memory to a top ranking nominee majoring in Agriculture, Classical Latin/Ancient Greek, or English.
2008 Winner
Patrick David Heery, who is majoring in Classics and World Religions at Ohio University, #073, is this year’s Alfred M. Wolfe Fellow. He plans to pursue a Masters of Divinity degree in graduate school.
Walter and Adelheid Hohenstein Fellows
The Hohenstein Fellow is awarded to a top ranking nominee in each of the 5 regions: Northeast, Southeast, North Central, South Central, Western, and 1 recipient from the University of Maryland (if any).

Walter and Adelheid Hohenstein Fellows
Northeastern Region: Vatsal Bharatbhai Patel, who is majoring in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Connecticut, #059, is this year’s Hohenstein Fellow for the Northeastern Region. He plans to attend Medical School.
Southeastern Region: Mary Kimberly Holder, who is majoring in Economics at the University of West Georgia, #150, is this year’s Hohenstein Fellow for the Southeastern Region. She plans to study Economics in graduate school.
North Central Region: Benjamin Adam Lenderman, who is majoring in Finance, Management and Business Administration at Indiana State University, #221, is this year’s Hohenstein Fellow for the North Central Region. He plans to study Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Management in graduate school.
South Central Region: Lucia Elizabeth Guillory, who is majoring in Psychology with a minor in Art History at the University of Houston, #054, is this year’s Hohenstein Fellow for the South Central Region. She plans to study Industrial Organizational Psychology in graduate school.
Western Region: Christopher Stephen Prentice, an English Literature major at the University of New Mexico, #017, is this year’s Hohenstein Fellow for the Western Region. He plans to study English Literature of the 19th Century in graduate school.
University of Maryland: A fellowship was not awarded to the nominee from the University of Maryland this year.
