Seeking Poetry Submissions
Phi Kappa Phi Forum seeks original, previously unpublished poetry from active members for its fall 2009 edition that will be devoted to the theme of higher education.

Fall is when the academic year traditionally begins, after all. And campuses face numerous challenges today on a number of fronts. Potential scholarly articles on higher education include the impact of the recession on academics and sports and the gap between students and professors about expectations in the education process.

One original, previously unpublished poem will be selected from all entries to appear in the printed version of the magazine’s fall edition as a complement to the scholarly articles. The winning poet receives five free copies of the edition. The winner’s photo and a short biography also will appear along with the poem. Runners-up may be chosen to appear online. The contest is open only to active Phi Kappa Phi members, published or unpublished. The poetry must reflect the theme of the issue: higher education. Possible topics for poems are vast – grades, college rankings, fraternities/sororities, professors, going green, campus politics, spring break, the freshman 15, Title IX, intramural sports, cafeteria food and more. So poets, be creative!

Poems should be up to 40 lines long. One poem per entrant per issue, please. Send your poem as a Word attachment or as a cut-and-paste in the body of the email. Also include a short bio (three or four sentences including Web links), contact information (mailing address and work, home and cell phone numbers) and Phi Kappa Phi member number and school affiliation as a separate Word attachment or as a cut-and-paste underneath the poem in the body of the email. Selected poets will be contacted for photos and other information.

The deadline to submit material is 9 a.m. CST Monday, July 27, 2009. Poet, Berry College professor and Phi Kappa Phi member Sandra Meek serves as the poetry editor and judge in consultation with Society management. Entries will be accepted only by email at poetry@phikappaphi.org.
