Board Bios

Diane Smathers, Ed.D.
Society Vice President

Dr. Diane G. Smathers is Associate Vice Provost and Director of the Emeritus College and a professor in family and community studies at Clemson University. Dr. Smathers received her B.S. degree in home economics, magna cum laude, from the University of Kentucky and her M.S. degree in home economics, also from Kentucky. She received her Ed.D. from the Institute of Higher Education at the University of Georgia, as well as a graduate certificate in Gerontology. Dr. Smathers is the author of more than 100 publications and is the recipient of numerous awards, including the prestigious Commemorative Lecturer for the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. In 2003, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame in the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of Kentucky. As Society Vice President, she chairs the Marketing and Member Benefits Committee and serves as a member of the Budget Committee and Vision Statement Work Group. She is also the author of a Phi Kappa Phi White Paper, Phi Kappa Phi and the Distance Learner.
